A note from the new-ish editor

Hello, readers. It is a great honor to step in as the editor-in-chief of Family BusinessMagazine. I look forward to learning more about you and your business. Your goals and challenges are the framework of what we do, the content we create and the stories we tell.

I come to this post from the world of entrepreneurship, startups and deal flow. I served for 10 years as the editor-in-chief of Entrepreneur magazine, where I came face-to face with the next generation of innovators and disruptors, co-working spaces and pitch competitions. Good stuff. Inspiring stuff. I also came face-to-face with cash burn, catastrophic failure rates and failed leadership. A real yin-yang of storytelling in the world of reporting. But it all laid the foundation for this role with Family Business – one that excites me and gives me a teeny bit of stage fright.

While your challenges are different from those in the world of startups,my philosophy is that no matter what your role in your family business, an entrepreneurial approach will impact the duration of your success and will help define your leadership – and the leadership of those who follow. Innovation is not simply for startups. Finding new ways of seeing and new ways of doing business will help guide you. And that’s what we will continue to do as your trusted source and partner for all things family-business-related.

In a world that is increasingly divided and fractured, the unifying force of family is grounding – let’s not forget that. Other industries and even startups will look to you and will be inspired by the mark you leave and the wisdom you impart.

Handoffs can be a tricky business in the editorial world, but our goal remains providing you with stories and content that will give you insights into this ecosystem. I look forward to being a part of your world and learning what you stand for and the values you embrace.
