Numericable-SFR, a unit of billionaire Patrick Drahi's telecom company Altice, has made a €10 billion all-cash offer for Bouygues Telecom,
the
Financial Times
reported.
Bouygues is France's third-largest provider of mobile services, the report noted.
Citing an anonymous source, the
FT
report said the talks between Numericable-SFR and Bouygues are “very close.”
The French government appears to be opposed to the acquisition, which would reduce the number of competitors in the country from four to three, the articlesaid.
Second-generation leader Martin Bouygues last year turned down an offer from Iliad — which owns Free, France's fourth-largest mobile operator — to buy Bouygues Telecom for about €5 billion, the
FT
article said. The report said Bouygues also rejected a €9 billion offer from Drahi earlier this year. (Source:
