Barilla opens restaurant in New York City




Barilla, the 138-year-old Italian pasta company that was the target of a boycott after chairman Guido Barilla said his company would never market to gay couples — has opened a restaurant in Midtown Manhattan,

the

Wall Street Journal

reported.

The restaurant, named Academia Barilla, offers a menu that “skews more toward the Olive Garden variety of Italian food,” the

Journal

article said.

Guido Barilla announced plans to enter the restaurant business and the U.S. market in late 2012, the

Journal

report noted. Stefano Albano, CEO of Barilla’s restaurant operation, told the

Journal

the company is looking for two smaller locations elsewhere in Manhattan. (Source:
