Bombardier Inc. is selling its firefighting water-bomber plane unit to Viking Air Ltd. of British Columbia,
the
Wall Street Journal
reported.
Terms of the sale were not disclosed.
Bombardier's Amphibious Aircraft program includes the Bombardier CL-415 water bomber and the manufacturing rights for all versions of the company's amphibious aircraft, plus product support, parts and service, the article said.
Bombardier intends to focus on its core operations: business jets, commercial aircraft and rail transportation, the article said.
Bombardier's CSeries passenger jet program “has faced major cost overruns and long delays and left the company with a hefty debt load that it is working to pare,” the
Journal
report noted. Bombardier has sold nearly half its stake in the CSeries program to the Quebec government and has also sold a stake in its rail transportation unit to a Quebec
pension fund, the
Journal
