British Farmer Cites Brexit in Appeal of Divorce Settlement




A British fruit farmer is appealing the settlement his ex-wife was awarded in court, claiming Brexit is threatening to diminish the family's £30 million fortune, England's

Paul Mansfield of Canterbury was ordered to pay Jane Mansfield £5 million by June with an additional £7.7 million due March 2018, but that will be delayed until a ruling is made on the appeal. The Mansfields were married for 26 years.

In addition to the Brexit argument, Mansfield says the original judgment doesn't factor in the size of his father's contribution and those financial gifts made to Mansfield should not be considered in determining the final number for the settlement.

Paul Mansfield Sr. founded the Broad Oak Farm in the 1960s. The more than 2,000-acre farm was worth millions by the time of his death in 2011. Paul Jr. was already running the farm at that time. The farm includes cold storage and a packing operation.

Jane Mansfield's attorney has said the delay in payment of the settlement is leaving her life “in limbo,” according to the report.
