Mining company Bumi is backing the Bakrie family over financier Nat Rothschild in a dispute over corporate governance and how the Indonesian family will exit from the company,
the
Financial Times
reported.
According to the report, while the Bumi board said it could not formally recommend the Bakries’ proposal while it was investigating allegations of financial irregularities at its Indonesian holdings, senior independent non-executive director Sir Julian Horn-Smith said the board preferred the Bakries’ offer to Rothschild’s proposal.
Rothschild said he had enough support from Bumi shareholders to block the Bakries’ proposal and implement his plan, but Sir Julian said the board does not believe him, the
