Deborah Marriott Harrison replaces her brother on board




Deborah Marriott Harrison, 57, daughter of Marriott International Inc. executive chairman J.W. Marriott Jr., has been appointed as a company director effective June 17, 2014,

the company announced.

Harrison, who is Marriott’s global officer, Marriott culture and business councils, replaces her brother, John W. Marriott III, who served on the board for 12 years.

Harrison has held a number of positions with Marriott International. From 2006-13 she headed its government affairs group. In her current post, she oversees strategy for Marriott’s 76 worldwide business councils and works with associates, owners and franchisees “to protect and promote Marriott’s culture and legacy,” according to the company.

The company said that John Marriott resigned from the board to devote more time to his other business interests and family matters. He is the CEO of JWM Family Enterprises LP, a private partnership that develops and owns hotels. He spent 30 years at Marriott International, where he held numerous positions, including executive vice president-lodging and president of North American lodging.
