Forbes moving out of N.Y.

Forbes Media is moving to Jersey City, N.J., from New York City,

New York Post

columnist Keith J. Kelly reported.

Forbes has been in its Greenwich Village headquarters for 49 years and has been based in New York for 97 years, Kelly’s report noted.

The lease for the Jersey City building was arranged by the LeFrak Organization, Kelly wrote. The company is also looking for office space in New York, the article said.

The Forbes family sold the headquarters building to New York University in 2010 for $65 million and signed a five-year lease to remain there. The lease expires Dec. 31, Kelly noted.

Kelly’s article said six bidders are vying to buy Forbes Media from the family and minority owners Elevation Partners: Axel Springer of Germany, Fosun International Ltd. of China, G2Whale Capital of China, Spice Global Private Ltd. of Singapore, the Oxley Group of Singapore, and an American investment group headed by Jack Laschever, who heads the Forbes conference business.
