Cho Hyun-ah, the Korean Air executive who forced a plane to return to the gate because she was upset about the way she had been served macadamia nuts, received a 12-month jail sentence after a Seoul court found her guilty of violating aviation safety rules,
the
Financial Times
reported.
Cho, also known as Heather Cho, received the minimum sentence, the article said. Yeo Woon-jin, the airline's head of cabin training, received an eight-month sentence for interfering with the transport ministry's investigation of the incident, the report noted.
Judge Oh Seong-woo said Cho “trampled on ⦠human dignity” by acting aggressively toward staff and treated the jet like a “private plane,” the
FT
article said.
The
FT
report said that some members of South Korea's business community “are concerned that Cho has been treated harshly to appease public anger and to set an example for other corporate leaders.”
BusinessKorea
reported
that Cho filed a notice of appeal to the court one day after the sentencing. (Sources:
