Korean Air executive receives 12-month jail sentence




Cho Hyun-ah, the Korean Air executive who forced a plane to return to the gate because she was upset about the way she had been served macadamia nuts, received a 12-month jail sentence after a Seoul court found her guilty of violating aviation safety rules,

the

Financial Times

reported.


Cho, also known as Heather Cho, received the minimum sentence, the article said. Yeo Woon-jin, the airline's head of cabin training, received an eight-month sentence for interfering with the transport ministry's investigation of the incident, the report noted.


Judge Oh Seong-woo said Cho “trampled on … human dignity” by acting aggressively toward staff and treated the jet like a “private plane,” the

report said that some members of South Korea's business community “are concerned that Cho has been treated harshly to appease public anger and to set an example for other corporate leaders.”
