MacKinnon family sells Drambuie after 268 years




The MacKinnon family of Scotland has sold their Drambuie liqueur to William Grant & Sons, a family-owned independent distiller whose brands include Glenfiddich Scotch whiskey, Hendrick's gin, Sailor Jerry rum and Milagro tequila.


John MacKinnon and his clan helped Prince Charles Edward Stuart escape after his defeat at the Battle of Culloden in 1746; in gratitude, “Bonnie Prince Charlie” is said to have given the MacKinnon clan the secret recipe for Drambuie,
