N.J. family-owned paper took lead on G.W. Bridge story

in its fourth generation of family ownership, has taken the lead in reporting on the closure of access lanes to the George Washington Bridge, leading to a scandal that has engulfed New Jersey Governor and potential presidential candidate Chris Christie,

Publisher Stephen Borg, a fourth-generation family member, got a tip from a friend of his about the lane closures and passed the information on to the newsroom, Wemple’s report noted.

The North Jersey Media Group includes the

46 community weeklies and printing operations. The

Record

has 200 newsroom employees, just 10% below the number at its peak. No further staff reductions are planned, Borg told Wemple. (Source:
