N. Christian Anderson III, the first editor of the
Eugene Register-Guard
from outside the founding Baker family, has left the Oregon newspaper,
Eugene Weekly
reported.
Anderson had joined the paper on June 1 from
The Oregonian
, where he had been publisher and then chairman of the Oregonian Media Group from 2009 through May 2015,
Willamette Weekly
reported.
Under his leadership,
The Oregonian,
owned by Advance Publications, cut staff, switched from a broadsheet to a tabloid format and decreased home delivery from seven to four days, the
Eugene Weekly
article said.
Before
The Oregonian
, Anderson had been a consultant to media executives and private equity investors; previously, he had been publisher of the
Orange County Register
in California.
Register-Guard
chairman Tony Baker sent an email to staff saying he would take over Anderson's responsibilities “for the immediate future,”
Willamette Weekly
reported. (Sources:
