Rodale Inc., the family-owned lifestyle publisher in Emmaus, Pa., is exploring “potential strategic alternatives,” including a sale of the entire company,
the
Morning Call
(Allentown, Pa.) reported.
Other options being discussed are a sale of some properties, groups of properties or individual businesses, or the continuation of the current business plan, the article said.
Rodale publishes
Runner's World, Men's Health, Women's Health
and
Prevention
magazines, among other titles.
Since 2015, third-generation CEO and chairwoman Maria Rodale, 55, has made several high-level management changes and operational restructurings, the report noted.
The board has hired Allen & Company as a financial adviser. A potential suitor, Meredith Corp., has expressed interest, the article said.
J.I. Rodale founded Rodale Press in Emmaus in 1930. The company began publishing
Organic Farming and Gardening
magazine in 1942 and
Prevention
in 1950.
The
Morning Call
report noted that Rodale has faced challenges in making the transition to digital and has seen its print advertising revenue decline. A memo sent by Maria Rodale to employees cited efforts to create a smaller, more agile business but added, “⦠we have to be willing to examine all our options.” (Source:
