On Oct. 24, Eric Trump, a son of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, visited D.G. Yuengling & Son, a brewer based in Pottsville, Pa. Owner Dick Yuengling, 73, told Trump at a news conference, “Our guys are behind your father. We need him in there.”
Since then, some beer drinkers have announced on social media that they will no longer drink Yuengling beer,
a
New York Times
report said.
Brian Sims, an openly gay Democratic Pennsylvania state representative from Philadelphia, has called for the city's gay bars to stop carrying Yuengling products and plans to expand the boycott effort to bars beyond the LBGT community, the
Times
article said.
“While it's unclear how many customers Yuengling could lose, the episode shows the risk that business owners take in dipping their toes in politics,” the
Times
article said.
The
Times
article said that Dick Yuengling “has a long history in conservative politics, including being a delegate for George W. Bush in 2000.”
The
Times
report also noted that Trump supporters vowed to drink more Yuengling beer “as a backlash to the backlash.” (Source:
