Veterans support Iraqi family's restaurant after vandalism




A veterans group fulfilled its pledge to bring customers to a Lowell, Mass., restaurant owned by an Iraqi couple after the eatery had been vandalized Jan. 4,

reported.

A New Hampshire man has confessed to throwing a 20-pound rock through a window of Babylon, a restaurant owned by Ahmed Al-Zubaidi, the article said.

Members of Veterans for peace vowed to fill every seat in the restaurant. By 8 p.m. Jan. 10, more than 100 people had dined in the 50-seat restaurant, Al-Zubaidi’s daughter, Leyla Al-Zubaydi, told the newspaper.

Ahmed Al-Zubaidi said the [vandalism] drove his wife to tears, and prompted her to question whether the family should close the restaurant. The show of support from veterans and the community drove her to tears of joy [Jan. 10], he said.
