Washington Post replaces Katharine Weymouth as publisher




The

Washington Post

has named Frederick J. Ryan Jr., a former Regan administration official and a co-founder of Politico.com, as publisher. Ryan replaces Katharine Weymouth, great-granddaughter of Eugene Meyer, who bought the

Post

at a bankruptcy auction in 1933. The move ends eight decades of family leadership at the newspaper,

Weymouth's family sold the

Post

to Amazon.com founder Jeff Bezos in August.


Ryan will begin his duties on October 1 and Weymouth will remain on the company payroll as an adviser through the end of the year, the
