Danielle Valkner, CPA

Advisory Partner, US Family Office Leader, PwC

Danielle Valkner leads our family office service offerings in the US and has over 30 years experience focused on financial services and family enterprises. She has led multiple engagements focusing on the unique needs of family offices, family businesses and asset managers in the areas of family office set up and optimization, digital strategy, automation and technology transformation, finance effectiveness and reporting, process improvement, due diligence, M&A and value creation and risk management and control.

Prior to joining PwC Danielle worked directly for two large global asset managers, gaining extensive industry experience in Chief Financial and Chief Administrative Officer roles, responsible for all aspects of financial reporting, strategic planning and analysis, infrastructure, complex investment products and valuation, finance, treasury, accounting, risk and internal controls. Danielle also spent over 10 years as an auditor in the financial services sector specializing in banking and asset management, gaining valuable experience with complex financial instruments, SEC reporting, international finance operations, private equity, real estate and hospitality as well as Sarbanes Oxley/internal control frameworks.

Danielle graduated summa cum laude from Augustana College where she majored in Accounting and Business Administration with concentrations in Finance and Economics. Danielle has also attended Northwestern Kellogg Family Business Advanced Education Program. She is a licensed CPA and an Elijah Watt Sells and State of Illinois medal recipient for her performance on the CPA exam. Danielle is passionate about child welfare and has served as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for children in the foster care system and is president and founding board member of a private foundation focused on supporting teens and young adults who are facing life challenges, are in crisis or aging out of the foster care system.


John Boles

PwC Principal, Cyber Security, PwC

John is a Principal in PriceWaterhouseCoopers’ Threat Management practice. His experience from over 27 years in federal law enforcement, national security, and cyber operations has given him a unique perspective on cyber security and risk.


John served in the FBI for over 20 years, conducting and leading investigations around the world, including cyber, fraud, terrorism, and violent crimes. As Deputy Assistant Director, in charge of FBI Cyber Operations, he oversaw the federal response to many of the more notorious cyber attacks in recent memory and advised the White House and National Security Council on cyber-related issues and policies. John also led the National Cyber Investigative Joint Task Force, a team of US and allied intelligence agencies dedicated to national security investigations and response and cyber security for critical infrastructure.


Prior to joining PwC, John led Navigant/Ankura’s global incident response services, helping clients prepare for, respond to, and recover from cyber attacks. He was also a Senior Vice President at Regions Bank, leading their cyber fraud and international investigations.


David Shaw

Publishing Director, Family Business Magazine

David Shaw is the publishing director for MLR Media. He also co-founded and serves as conference director of the Transitions conferences, the Private Company Governance Summit and Family Business Legacy. David writes frequently on governance issues for public and private companies, and develops and maintains close relationships with multi-generational family-owned businesses. He is married, with two grown children.
