The Family Business Leadership Symposium Experience

The Family Business Leadership Symposium is about family business theory and the practical applications of those theories to individual attendee needs.

All attendees will gather in the late afternoon on June 17 for an opening session, describing the potential outcomes of the symposium, and a deep discussion of the typical developmental issues, models of governance and succession dynamics of a family business.  After this session, attendees will have their first assignment—to determine the key issue or goal each wants to work on at the symposium.  This will be followed by a group reception and dinner.

On June 18, attendees will begin work with their peer tracks, first further developing their individual symposium goals, participating in lectures on current family business research and best practices, along with examples of those best practices in action.  Lunch will continue the working experience, and the afternoon will be devoted to further peer tracks working through significant issues in each attendee’s family business, and developing  individual action plan frameworks under the tutelage of top academics, consultants and peers.  In the evening, all peer groups will come together for a discussion of the processes for making changes within the business and the family, followed by a “family kitchen table” dinner, where family groups can discuss with each other and others what they’re working on.

On June 19, each attendee will modify their individual action plans and share feedback on other action plans with their peer group, followed by an all attendee session where some of these plans will be shared and discussed.  After lunch, the symposium ends.

After the Symposium, we’ll facilitate a mechanism for following up within each peer group, to ensure that the action plan gets the best in consultative help from your peers as you implement it.  Additional follow up meetings with peer groups will be hosted at the Transitions Conferences.
