German media company Axel Springer SE, publisher of
Bild
and
Die Welt
newspapers, has been reducing its reliance on print, and its CEO, Mathias Döpfner, plans to make the company the “leading digital publisher” in the U.S.,
the
Wall Street Journal
reported.
The company has a stake of about 88% in U.S. news site Business Insider. It also holds minority stakes in 12 U.S. companies, mostly digital-native startups, including Mic.com, Thrillist and NowThis, the article said.
Axel Springer is listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange but controlled by the widow of the company’s founder, the
Journal
