Brown-Forman to acquire Scotch brands




Publicly traded, family-controlled Brown-Forman Corp. has agreed to buy The BenRiach Distillery Co. Ltd. of Edinburgh, Scotland, for about £285 million (about $415 million),

The deal adds three single-malt Scotch brands to Brown-Forman's portfolio: GlenDronach, BenRiach and Glenglassaugh.


Brown-Forman is purchasing brand trademarks, three malt distilleries, a bottling plant and the company's Edinburgh headquarters, the article said. BenRiach Distillery will operate as a subsidiary of Brown-Forman, the report said.


Brown-Forman previously was a minority shareholder of Glenmorangie PLC but soldits interest as part of Glenmorangie's sale to Moët Hennessy in 2005, the journal article said. (Source:
