Calif. family firms form lobbying group




California-based family businesses have joined together to form the Family Business Association to represent them at the State Capitol and in Washington, D.C.

The group was founded by 22 family-owned companies representing a variety of industries and sectors. Its chairman is David Lucchetti, president and CEO of Pacific Coast Building Products of Rancho Cordova, Calif.

The non-profit group is funded by its member organizations and has an annual dues structure. It is organized under section 501(c)(6) of the Internal Revenue Code, which means that it may engage in legislative lobbying; the group has hired California Advocates, a lobbying firm.

• Advocate for the interests and public policy positions of family business in California.

• Communicate with members about developments in the legislature and governmental agencies affecting family business.

• Build broad-based coalitions of organizations with shared policy interests.

• Build a political action committee to help elect pro-family business legislators.
