Lawsuit could delay AB InBev-Modelo merger




Anheuser-Busch InBev warned in a regulatory filing that an antitrust lawsuit filed March 22 on behalf of nine consumers could delay or prevent its planned takeover of Grupo Modelo,

the

St. Louis Business Journal

reported.

The suit was filed in federal court in San Francisco against A-B InBev and Modelo by antitrust attorney Joseph Alioto, who had filed a lawsuit in 2008 seeking to block InBev’s acquisition of Anheuser-Busch, the journal article said.

The current suit alleges that the acquisition of Modelo will substantially reduce competition or tend to create a monopoly in the production, distribution and sale of beer in the U.S., according to the report. (Source:
