Pa. family company expanding its focus




Devault Foods of Malvern, Pa., a meat-preparation and packing company founded in 1949, has entered the direct-to-consumer market,

a

Philadelphia Business Journal

report said.

The 200-employee company has supplied meat products to independent restaurants and fast-food chains and makes private-label products for restaurants that are sold to consumers.

Devault has now started selling its Mrs. DiFillippo brand of Italian meatballs at two local Wegmans stores and plans to expand to other locations in the future. It also makes a homestyle burger that is available at PJP Marketplace locations in Philadelphia, the article said.

In January, Tom Fillippo, who had been the company president since 1970, moved to chairman of the board and was succeeded by Brett Black, the former chief operating officer, who became president and CEO. Fillippo’s son, Thomas W. Fillippo, was promoted to executive vice president.

The company plans to enter the fresh food subscription (meal kit) market, the journal article said.

Black told the journal that the company’s revenue has grown at least 18% over the past two-and-a-half years.
