The La Motte vineyard in South Africa, owned by the country’s richest family, plan to increase exports to China by 25% this year,
Bloomberg reported.
La Motte’s CEO, Hein Koegelenberg, is the brother-in-law of Johann Rupert, chairman of Cie. Financiere Richemont SA. The family has a net worth of $8.9 billion, the Bloomberg article said. La Motte is owned by Kogelenberg’s wife, Hanneli, and is located 48 miles east of Cape Town, the article said.
Koegelenberg and his wife also own the nearby Leopard’s Leap vineyard, the article said.
Last August, Kogelenberg lured the first Chinese investors to South Africa’s wine industry, the article said. (Source: Bloomberg, July 1, 2014.)
