Kathleen Hoye, CExP, ACFBA, CFWA

Consulting Principal and Family Business Advisory Services Team Leader, MCM CPAs & Advisors

Kathleen is a Principal in the Consulting Services Team at MCM. She has had extensive experience helping and advising firms with their growth, development, and passing enterprises to the next generation. Her areas of focus include business strategy, family and business governance, family and business policy development, succession planning, leadership development, next generation career coaching, family education and communication, and exit planning that allows owners to exit their businesses on their terms and conditions. Before working at MCM, she was the Director of the Family Business Center at the University of Louisville and Director of the Small Business Development Center for North Central Kentucky. She also created the Vogt Invention and Innovation Fund for the Vogt family in Louisville, which provides seed-stage support and capital for inventors and product developers as well as co-launching the award-winning radio series โ€œThis I Believeโ€ on NPR. Kathleen is a frequent presenter at family business and trade conferences, educational programs and meetings covering topics such as family governance, change management, succession planning, exit planning, leadership development and family communication.

Dennis Jaffe, PhD

Senior Research Fellow, BanyanGlobal Family Business Advisors

Dennis T. Jaffe, Ph.D. is a San Francisco-based adviser to families about family business, governance, wealth and philanthropy, recently completed working papers published by Wise Counsel Research, based on his current research with global multi-generational family enterprises. He is author (or co-author) of Cross Cultures: How Global Families Negotiate Change Across Generations, Stewardship in your Family Enterprise: Developing Responsible Family Leadership Across Generations and Working With the Ones You Love, as well as management books Rekindling Commitment, Getting Your Organization to Change and Take this Work and Love It. The Family Firm Institute recently awarded him the 2017 International Award for service, and in 2005 he received the Beckhard Award for service to the field. He has a B.A. degree in philosophy, masterโ€™s in management, and Ph.D. in sociology, all from Yale University, and is professor emeritus of organizational systems and psychology at Saybrook University in San Francisco.

Vaughan Scott, MBA

Professor in Practice, MBA Programs, University of Louisville


Vaughan Scott is and entrepreneur who is in the midst of a transition to having a family enterprise and he has been advising on the financial, strategic, transition and succession needs of family enterprises and entrepreneurs since 1997. His top priorities are to help family businesses preserve their wealth (in all is forms), capitalize on opportunities and pass their values on to future generations.


Vaughan has a Masters of Business Administration in global management from the Thunderbird School of Global Management (European Cohort) and holds an Executive Certificate in International Economics Relations from the Graduate Institute in Geneva, Switzerland. Professionally, he also holds the coveted Certified Private Wealth Advisorยฎ designation. The CPWAยฎ is an advanced designation for advisors and consultants who work with high-net-worth clients in their life cycle of wealth.


Aside from his core wealth management business, Vaughan teaches business consulting for multiple MBA programs, he has also developed a course called Family Wealth Creation and Preservation which is part of the University of Louisvilleโ€™s online graduate certificate program in Family Business Management and Advising. Ironically, he is also an instructor in the Family Firm Institute(FFI)โ€™s Global Education Network (GEN) where he teaches GEN202: Family Wealth and was inducted as a Fellow of the Family Firm Institute at the 2015 FFI Global Conference in London.


David Shaw

Publishing Director, Family Business Magazine

David Shaw is the publishing director for MLR Media. He also co-founded and serves as conference director of the Transitions conferences, the Private Company Governance Summit and Family Business Legacy. David writes frequently on governance issues for public and private companies, and develops and maintains close relationships with multi-generational family-owned businesses. He is married, with two grown children.
