Michael Cole

Managing Partner, R360

Michael A. Cole is an industry veteran with more than 20 years of experience building successful wealth management firms. In addition, he has worked with over 500 families in helping them navigate successfully through the strategic and tactical issues of managing multi-generational wealth. He is also the author of the awarding book “More Than Money; A Guide Sustaining Wealth and Preserving the Family.” Currently, Michael serves a Managing Partner for R360 which is an innovative, by invitation only membership group of strategic wealth creators and their families.

Prior to co-founding R360, Michael retired as the CEO of Cresset Asset Management, an SEC Registered Investment Advisor. After just two years under his leadership, Cresset joined the ranks as one of the top 25 RIAs in the country. Before joining Cresset, he held the position as the founder and the leader of Ascent Private Capital Management of U.S. Bank, an award-winning multi-family office that he developed into one of the fastest growing MFOs in the industry. Prior to Ascent, Michael worked at Wells Fargo, developing the initial business plan and heading up Abbot Downing which was among the largest MFOs in the country. Earlier in his career, Michael was president of Merrill Lynch Trust Company.


Nate Herbst

Founder, Paradigm

Nate is an accomplished entrepreneur and investor. Nate founded Paradigm, growing it to be one of the most innovative software companies in the building products industry. Based on his vision, Paradigm continues to offer cutting edge solutions for manufacturers, retailers, dealers, builders, and remodelers. In Q2 2021 Nate sold Paradigm to Builders FirstSource (BFS) as part of its strategy to invest in their digital solutions footprint.

Since the acquisition, Nate’s passion for innovation and learning has driven him to build an investment portfolio comprised of real estate, direct private equity, and public equities. He leads 43 North Partners, LLC, a family office that focuses on nurturing and growing these investments.


Angel Alvarez

Chairman of the Board, ABB Optical Group

Angel Alvarez is an American entrepreneur, investor, and mentor to the next generation of innovators.  He is Chairman of the Board of ABB Optical Group, a medical device manufacturing and distribution company he founded three decades ago.

Angel serves on the boards of Allied Steel Buildings (manufacturer of pre-engineered buildings), 4Ocean (public benefit corporation dedicated to ending the global ocean plastic crisis), and the University of Miami’s College of Engineering.

He’s also an operating partner of Interlock Equity, a private equity firm investing in emerging healthcare technology companies.


David Shaw

Publishing Director, Family Business Magazine

David Shaw is the publishing director for MLR Media. He also co-founded and serves as conference director of the Transitions conferences, the Private Company Governance Summit and Family Business Legacy. David writes frequently on governance issues for public and private companies, and develops and maintains close relationships with multi-generational family-owned businesses. He is married, with two grown children.
