Nordstrom expanding into Canada as Target retreats




While Target has announced plans to close all 133 of its Canadian stores, family-owned Nordstrom plans to open six stores in Canada by 2017,

the

Puget Sound Business Journal

reported.


A Nordstrom store opened in Calgary in September 2014. Locations are scheduled to open in Ottawa in March and in Vancouver in September 2015. Three Nordstrom stores are planned for Toronto, the article said.


The article said Nordstrom’s entry into the country is likely to be more successful than Target’s because Nordstrom has a strong online presence, sources some products locally instead of centrally and is expanding slowly.


Retail analyst Dick Outcalt told the journal that Nordstrom’s entry into Canada could offer the retailer “a chance to reinvent itself” by appealing to younger customers.  (Source:
