U.S. sanctions against Russian businesses in retaliation for Russia’s annexation of Crimea are affecting the family of Russian billionaire Boris Rotenberg,
the
Financial Times
reported.
Roman Rotenberg, son of Boris, told the
FT
that the sanctions had caused “some tensions” in the family’s lifestyle.
Roman and Boris Rotenberg hold Finnish citizenship. Roman Rotenberg manages the family’s interests in Finland, which include the Langvik hotel and the Hartwall Arena in Helsinki, the article said.
No U.S. person is permitted to conduct business with those targeted by the sanctions. Roman Rotenberg said it was difficult for him to pay the gas bill for his home in Europe because “you need two hours time to change the account and find a bank that’s not connected to the U.S.,” the
FT
reported.
Roman Rotenberg told the
FT
that family members, including those not directly targeted by the sanctions, have decided not to travel to the U.S.
The family also owns hotel properties in Germany and Italy and does business with U.S. companies such as sports equipment retailers, the
FT
article said. (Source:
